A preparation routine of regular walking, hiking on weekends, jogging, cycling, and stair climbing for 4-6 weeks prior to your trek will be highly beneficial. You don't need to be an athlete, but the fitter you are, the more you will enjoy the incredible journey. Your guide will also help you maintain a safe and steady pace throughout the trek.

  • Build stamina with regular cardio: walking, jogging, cycling, and stair climbing.
  • Pack in layers: warm clothes for cool mornings/evenings at higher altitudes, light clothes for daytime walking.

Additional Info

Accommodation Standard

In Kathmandu and Pokhara, you will stay in comfortable 3-star hotels (e.g., Hotel Mulberry or similar in Kathmandu, and Hotel Pokhara Grande or similar in Pokhara) on a twin-sharing basis with breakfast included.

During the trek, accommodation is in local teahouses. Rooms are basic, clean, and twin-sharing with a bed and pillow. At lower elevations, some teahouses may offer rooms with attached bathrooms, but at higher altitudes (Deurali, ABC), facilities are simpler with shared bathrooms. Hot showers are usually available for a small fee (Rs. 100-300) in most villages, though they may be solar-powered and less reliable in bad weather. Wi-Fi is also available for a fee in many teahouses.

  • A sleeping bag liner is recommended for extra warmth and hygiene.
  • Earplugs can be helpful for a good night's sleep in busy teahouses.

Meals on the Trek

All meals (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner) are included during the trek. You will order from the teahouse menu, providing good variety each day. A typical breakfast might include porridge, muesli, eggs, toast, and Tibetan bread. Lunch and dinner offer a range of options from traditional Nepali Dal Bhat (rice, lentil soup, and vegetables) to noodles, soups, pasta, potatoes, and momos.

Dal Bhat is highly recommended by guides as it provides sustained energy, is easily digestible, and is often served with unlimited refills, making it a great value and fuel for trekking.

  • Stick to warm, cooked meals and avoid raw salads to minimize the risk of stomach upsets.
  • Tea, coffee, and hot lemon are widely available and great for warming up and staying hydrated.

Permits Required

We arrange all necessary permits for you, which are included in the cost:

1. Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): Required to enter the Annapurna Conservation Area.

2. Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) Card: Required for all trekkers in Nepal.

  • Please bring 2-3 passport-sized photos and a copy of your passport for permit applications.

Packing List (Essentials)

Clothing: Layering system is key. Bring: thermal base layers (merino wool/synthetic), trekking shirts, a fleece jacket or light mid-layer, a down jacket (provided, but you can bring your own), a waterproof and windproof hardshell jacket and pants, trekking pants, a warm hat, a sun hat, gloves, and plenty of trekking socks.

Footwear: Well-broken-in waterproof trekking boots with good ankle support. Comfortable camp shoes or sneakers for the evenings.

Gear: 30-40L daypack, headlamp with extra batteries, UV-protected sunglasses, water bottles/hydration bladder (2-3L capacity), water purification tablets or a SteriPen.

Toiletries & Health: Sunscreen (high SPF), lip balm with SPF, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, a personal first-aid kit (including blister care, pain relievers, Diamox, and any personal medication).

Extras: Power bank (for charging devices), camera, and a good book for evenings.

  • Pack light! Your main duffel bag for the porter should not exceed 10-11 kg.
  • Use dry bags or packing cubes to keep your gear organized and dry.

Weather & Best Time to Trek

Spring (March to May): This is a fantastic time with moderate temperatures, longer days, and blooming rhododendron forests. Visibility is generally excellent, though some haze may build by late May.

Autumn (September to November): Arguably the best time for trekking. The weather is stable after the monsoon, skies are crystal clear, and mountain views are spectacular. It can be cool at night, especially in late autumn.

Winter (December to February): Possible for well-prepared trekkers with proper cold-weather gear. Trails are very quiet, but it can be very cold at higher altitudes (ABC can drop to -10°C or lower) and there may be snow. Some teahouses may be closed.

Monsoon (June to August): Not recommended. Heavy rain, leeches on lower trails, cloud cover, and landslides can make the trek difficult and dangerous.

  • Layering is the key to comfort, regardless of the season.

Health & Wellness Tips

Pacing: Walk slowly and steadily. The mantra is 'bistari, bistari' (slowly, slowly). Enjoy the journey, don't rush.

Hydration: Drink at least 3-4 liters of water or warm fluids per day. Proper hydration is the most effective way to combat AMS symptoms.

Nutrition: Eat well, even if you don't have a big appetite. Carbohydrates are your best fuel.

Communication: Be honest with your guide about how you are feeling. They are there to help you have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Hygiene: Wash your hands frequently with soap or sanitizer, especially before meals.

  • Avoid alcohol and tobacco at high altitude.
  • 'Climb high, sleep low' is a useful principle even though we don't have dedicated acclimatization days on this trek; our steady pace achieves the same effect.
